Candles for man and woman

Technically its not Rotterdam but a picture that I took when this (me) Rotterdammer stayed for a few days in the province of Limburg. There I visited the city of Maastricht. When walking I passed the Chapel of the Star of the Sea in the Basilica of Our Lady in Maastricht and inside I took this picture. I liked the light of the candles and the serene atmosphere. The place where you feel peace is always your home, Rotterdam or Maastricht…

Early walk before starting my shift this day and trying to catch the light. I’m happy with this picture with a bit of skyline and the recognisable silhouette of the Grote of Sint Laurenskerk. It is the only remnant of Rotterdam’s medieval city centre. Build in 1449-1525, bombed in may 1940, rebuild in 1952-1968 and still standing. Worth a visit!

I’m a bit exhausted today, and all I want is… to take a break. So a peacefull photo of the Norwegian Sailor’s Church, located on the Westzeedijk next to the entrance of the Park. Sorry… you still get a photo, but no facts and figures caption today…

Its sunday so again I found it appropriate to show you a church. Its the Allerheiligste Verlosserkerk (Most Holy Savior church) located at the Goudse Rijweg in the neighbourhood Crooswijk. Build in neogothic style between 1882 – 1884 with a connected monastery build in 1885. About 1050 people could find a seat inside the church, so quite big. Closed in 1978 due to declining church attendance and severe damaged in 1979 by a fire it was decided in 1982 to convert the church to house students. The name of this appartment building? The church…
