A restaurant near the church leads the visitors the right direction…

A bar restaurant nearby has a terrace/garden spot made up of containers and on one of them a wishful thinking text! Sometimes it is, sometimes its not 🙂
On the corner of Coolsingel – Aert van Nesstraat, the luxury hotel Atlanta is located above the shops there. The hotel was built between 1929 and 1931 to a design by the Hague architect Frans van der Togt in the Art Deco style and officially opened its doors on May 2, 1931. When it was completed in 1931, the hotel contained a double-height café-restaurant. on the ground floor where the shops are now. During the bombing of Rotterdam on 14 May 1940, Hotel Atlanta passed through almost unscathed. My grandfather lived in the streets behind the building before WWII. In the summer when the windows and doors were open because of the heat he could here the music of the orchestra in the restaurant/club. It has been a municipal monument since 1998.
A late update but here its is! This afternoon I passed this cafe-restaurant on the Goudsesingel. It seemed full of guests but it turned out to be a still life that was only good for take away orders …
The Groothandels building located at Stationsplein, a major reconstruction project just after the second world war. But what really matters in this photo is brasserie Engels, at the bottom right of the photo. Opened in 1884 and at its current location since 1952. The name is still brightly shining but it silently closed during the first Corona lockdown so as not to open anymore …
Almost 30 years ago we celebrated our wedding on these party ships. Abandoned for a few years and poor maintenance were disastrous. The city’s new plans for the site have put the demolition workers to work. The end of the line …
P.S. Almost a year ago I took this picture on the same location >>
Spotted this corner with a table for two just beside the train tracks. Maybe for a romantic diner to get your relationship back on track?
The last few weeks have been quite chaotic and I was not always able or in the mood to take pictures. Therefore occasionally some photos from the archive … Made in 2010.
A few years ago I visit the former flagship of the Holland America Line, 228 meters long, 28 meters wide, 51 meters high, the ss Rotterdam. Commissioned in 1958 by Queen Juliana she had her maiden trip in 1959. Here is a Youtube link with some footage of this maiden voyage at 3 september 1959. Worth a visit!
I had dinner with family, homemade and very special! This was the finale, the dessert, beautiful and a great taste! Sorry that you could not taste it but I hope the picture will bring you joy too!
Not far from where I live is an old train wagon, a buffet wagon, which has now reached the end of its journey in the so-called ZOHO quarter*. Nowadays its a vega restaurant called Gare du Nord! The restaurant cooks sustainable organic food as much as possible and cooks 100% vegetable. I haven’t tried it yet, but I particularly like the train carriage! You can find the restaurant in the Anthoniestraat. I took the photo a while ago on black and white film and I like the result. Now I have to go, you guessed it, I have to catch the train!
*ZoHo is a new part of town where creative people with different life activities take care of the development of this area.
Thursday evening to the former Rotterdam Bergweg train station to eat Italian! We celebrated the fact that my oldest daughter has finished her biology studies! She has achieved her MSc title! And this restaurant has a nice vibe because of the building, you can still see and feel the old station but with a cosy Italian layer over it. Don’t let the sign Rotterdam Centraal foul you, it is the old Bergweg Station 🙂
I had dinner at the Bazar, a restaurant that is established since December 1997 in a monumental building at Witte de Withstraat in the center of Rotterdam. Most of the dishes on the menu are from the Middle East and North Africa. There’s also a small hotel. We had a very pleasant evening and I almost forgot to take another photo for you! Enjoy the weekend!
Its friday and most of us are looking forward to a few days off! So I thought it was appropriate to have a photo of this cafe, The Yellow Canary (in Dutch – de Gele Kanarie). With its own brewery beer or as mentioned in Rotterdam, a yellow canary! You can find this cafe at the Goudsesingel. Have a nice weekend!
This is the Stadhuisplein (Cityhall square) right in front of the cityhall. Its free of traffic and has many cafes and restaurants and is popular with tourists and locals alike! And if there is a big victory of one of the local footballclubs thousands of people celebrate here. I didn’t spend the evening here, I just shot this photo for you and went home to put in on the blog…
And its the first of the month, themeday for CDP! And the october theme is orange. And while walking the dog nearby our house I spotted this delivery boy of “Thuisbezorgd” the local delivery service for food delivery ordered online with one of the many participating restaurants. And is it orange or not! 😉
Everytime I pass this restaurant Due Tonino, located at the Goudsesingel, I think to myself “I have to go there and taste the Italian life”. To this day its has not happened but this evening I took this picture to keep the flame of desire alive. And you can be sure that I’ll you know when I’ve been there!
Yes its true! This McDonalds, located at the Coolsingel, won in 2016 a German Design Award given by the German Design Council. Apparently one of the most prestigious awards. I don’t know if the guests who visit this restaurant 24/7 do like the beauty or favorite the Big Mac…
These ships enclosed in this ‘harbour’ are about to make their last voyage. They used to be a restaurant and party ship but are closed for years now. A chess club were the last occupants but a leak almost sunk the ships. And now they are to be destroyed…
